about kara helena

I’m a grinner. I’m a lover. And I’m a sinner. Playin’ my music in the sun…

kidding.

I am…a newlywed, daughter, a granddaughter, a friend, a sister, an aunt, an artist, a life learner and so much more. I believe love has no bounds and grace is for all.

frequently asked questions:

WHERE do you live?

Just last year I moved to Sonora, California with my husband. It’s a small country town. The nearest Target is 80 miles away…but I am learning a lot about the area and enjoying the peaceful way of living out here.

You’re from Texas so you’re a Republican right?

HAHAHAHAHA (Can you hear me laughing??) No. I’m an Independent which means I like to stand in the middle and yell at both sides. You won’t see much if any political rants on this blog.

What kind of camera do you use?

I always have my Nikon D200 close by unless I’m cheating and using my Canon 7D.

Why do you insist on wearing cowgirl boots to the grocery store?

I don’t know. I guess because no one has tried stopping me yet.

What’s your dream job?

Something inspiring. And creative. And flexible. And kick ass. Oh, and I want a cape and a superhero name.

Are you writing a book?

Yes.

Disclaimer: (the lawyers made me do it)

Not everyone is going to like what I have to say. Which is always true I guess, but the words, thoughts and language on this blog may be offensive for some.

I don’t ever consciously try to hurt people but I will freely admit that I take opportunities to make people uncomfortable. I believe that when we are in spaces and conversations that don’t make us comfortable we have the opportunity to change, to grow, to understand to a greater depth than we could before. If while reading anything I write on this blog you start to dislike what I have to say, I ask that you keep reading. Don’t stop. Allow the uncomfortableness for awhile. Because in those places we see change happen. I value each of your voices and would love to hear your responses.

Shalom,

Kara Helena

Hi, Are you still in the states? Or back in Praha? I’m writing because I came upon your blog while searching for others in CZ. I’m in Brno and I have a friend with YL in Paris. When you get back to Praha, I’d love to meet you. There are some girls here interested in starting a photography club through the church – maybe you’d have some ideas for us :)

Feel free to shoot me an email if you like,
    Beth

    Hey Kara,
Are you in California while you’re raising support? Hope you’re doing great. Sorry I wasn’t able to connect with you when you were over my way.

I looked for a woman at the well photo to suite my subject theme of “living water”, which I am building on htttp://sharparrowmusic.ning.com – After quite a search I chose one of yours and of course read what you had to say. I did understand the struggle. I myself was chosen in the “furnace of affliction” according to what I felt was the voice of God. But having become more constant through time, I enjoy less of your kind of struggle now and pray that you will become a “pillar in God’s temple”, as it were. May the Lord bless you and thanks for your art, which of course links back to your block. Lovely photo. I assume it is yours. I appreciate art, even though I usually paint in music.

    God bless you
    Gerald

    Hi Kara,
I work with your dad and he was bragging about your blog so I decided to give it a read. Very impressive writing and your photography is beautiful. Keep up the outstanding writing. I look forward to your adventures in dating stories. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Kara, I have read and reread the comment you left on my blog last month. It was the only comment left on the post I wrote about my sweet baby girl, Emma. I just wanted to tell you thank you so much. Her Angel day is coming up next week, and it is an especially difficult time right now. So, thank you for taking the time to read and comment.
